Der Bürgermeister und der Polizei waren extrem feindlich. Wir wollten nur eine Nacht dort verbringen, weil es schon dunkel war, und wir konnten auf dem Fluss nicht weiter gehen. Eventuell mussten wir uns von der Polizei verstecken, und Morgen früh - so zu sagen - fliehen. Na das war sehr interessant. Am Ende war es klar, dass der Grillplatz wird nur für Ortsgruppen gegeben.

Hostile environment, extremely nationalist, hate outsiders. The village operates with an aggressive and rude police force. We have tried to reserve the Grillplatz for years but they always make up excuses. The reality is that the place is never open except if the Mayor's daughter has her birthday. This place is Viktor Orban's wet dream. Nepotism, misusing EU funds and hostile to foreigners.

We asked to rent the public Grillplatz, they refused with made-up excuses. Then we made our camp on the nearby field, and they called the police on us, asking us to move back onto the river, after sunset, when it is dangerous on the water. They said "It was not their problem". Then the police denied that Gattendorf had a Grillplatz altogether, and refused to be led there as evidence. Extremely inhospitable, they hate outsiders, especially Hungarians.
